25 June 2012Thank You Seafarers!25th June of each year is the "Day of Seafarer". It's not just a recall to the invaluable contribution of the seafarers' work for the international trade and economy, but it aims to raise awareness of the human sacrifice they steady play! Currently 800 seafarers are taken hostage by Pirates worldwide; more than 35 ships are held captive just along Somali shores (learn more at http://www.saveourseafarers.com/ ). They are living a nightmare of deprivation, starvation, thirst, squalor, captivity, isolation from family and friends, and in some cases torture. Piracy imperils seafarer’s lives and wellbeing and costs the industry billions dollars each year. It cannot be allowed to escalate further. 35 seafarers have been killed in the recent years, in the total indifference of the public opinion and the international authorities. SpecTec protests this indifference! SpecTec is close to them and their families, and thanks them for their everyday work and efforts. Thank You Seafarers!
